March Steel Shipments Up 7.9 Percent from March 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported today that for the month of March 2018, U.S. steel mills shipped 8,299,418 net tons, a 10.3 percent increase from the 7,525,590 net tons shipped in the previous month, February 2018, and a 7.9 percent increase from the 7,692,434 net tons shipped in March 2017. Shipments year-to-date in 2018 are 23,461,349 net tons, a 3.7 percent increase vs. 2017 shipments of 22,633,191 net tons for three months.

A comparison of March shipments to the previous month of February shows the following changes: hot rolled sheets, up 12 percent, hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, up 11 percent, and cold rolled sheets, up 10 percent.
