SJI to Host Webinar on Evaluation and Modification of Open Web Steel Joists and Girders - Part I

FLORENCE, SC - The Steel Joist Institute (SJI) will host Part 1 of a two-part series on "Evaluation and Modification of Open Web Steel Joists and Joist Girders" on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm EDT. Part 1 will discuss and demonstrate the methods to first evaluate existing open web steel joists and Joist Girders for revised loading conditions. This webinar parallels the SJI publication "Technical Digest No. 12: Evaluation and Modification of Open Web Steel Joists and Joist Girders."

The learning objectives include:

  • Identifying the key characteristics of in-place joists.
  • Teaching participants how to determine the original manufacturer and whether the manufacturer can provide any additional documentation.
  • Showing participants how to verify the original design loads and evaluate the joist for the new loads.
  • Discussing procedures to identify the joist components and connections that are inadequate as part of the evaluation.
